Research Into Target Audience


With having researched on the internet to discover what particular genre of music sells i discovered a statistics site that collected data of the sales of music in particular genres in the years of 2006 to 2007. I decided to use this as the basis of selecting my song to create a promotional package for.




The graph shows an overall decline in music sales across a range of genres, with new age decreasing the least. Yet i didn't really understand the new age genre, with classical and soundtrack music following i found it hard to think of ideas or even artists to use. Therefore i decided to use the genre of rock as my foundation to starting this project. Rock genre has the highest amount of music sales and a considerably low decrease in growth compared to the likes of Rap that fell by -30%. Rock in 2007 sold just shy of 150,000 albums creating a strong audience to appeal to.

I then decided to create my own questionnaire to hand out within the town centre to discover what type of music genre is favourable of the people. I picked out a varying range of people that differed in age to grasp a solid idea of the relationship between age and music genre also, giving me a relative target audience to aim towards when creating this production package.
